3D inspection: How you find particles even in highly viscous products
Precise handling, high-resolution cameras, and an innovative calculation method — these are the elements of our 3D inspection system for highly viscous products such as hyaluronic acid.
Manufacturers of such products know the challenges - inspection used to be difficult. In liquids, foreign bodies change position when you rotate the container. However, they don’t move if the content is viscous. So how can such particles be detected?
Our solution: we integrate the third dimension. Assumptions are made as to exactly where a particle would have to be if it were stuck to the outside of the container. The virtual images resulting from the complex calculations are compared with real-life camera images. If the real-life image corresponds to one of the virtual ones, the particle is located on the outside of the container. All real-life images that are not matched by a virtual image show a foreign object in the product.
This enables you to reliably distinguish a particle inside your product from contamination on the outside and thus avoid false rejects.

Can be integrated into our machine platforms for the high-speed inspection of up to 600 containers per minute.
Tried and tested in practice
Successfully installed more than a dozen times just two years since its market launch.
Huge savings potential
Minimize your false rejects and save millions of euros each year.
Air bubbles
An air bubble refracts light rays differently than glass, causing the color pattern to be reversed. This physical effect enables Bubble-X to reliably distinguish the two objects from one another.
Transparent particles
A transparent particle such as a piece of glass refracts the light and deflects it. This causes not only the green, but also the blue and red light rays to hit the detector, where they create a specific color pattern.
Non-transparent foreign objects
A normal, opaque particle blocks the light and thus appears in the camera image as a dark object against a green background.
Bubble-X: Distinguish air bubbles from particles and minimize costly false rejects
Is it a particle or just a harmless air bubble? Seidenader Bubble-X detects the difference – with the help of light refraction.
When inspecting parenteral products, good products are often rejected as defective because the camera cannot distinguish harmless air bubbles from dangerous particles. Biopharmaceuticals, which are usually expensive, are naturally prone to air bubbles. Reduce your number of false rejects — and save millions of euros with Bubble-X.
How Bubble-X works
Red, green, and blue rays of light pass through liquid-filled glass containers. Specially arranged lenses ensure that only the green rays hit the detector of a color camera behind the container; the red and blue rays pass by. However, if the rays encounter air bubbles or particles on their way, one of three scenarios occurs:
Non-transparent foreign objects
A normal, opaque particle blocks the light and thus appears in the camera image as a dark object against a green background.
Transparent particles
A transparent particle such as a piece of glass refracts the light and deflects it. This causes not only the green, but also the blue and red light rays to hit the detector, where they create a specific color pattern.
Air bubbles
An air bubble refracts light rays differently than glass, causing the color pattern to be reversed. This physical effect enables Bubble-X to reliably distinguish the two objects from one another.

High voltage: Ensures safety due to impermeability and sterility
Cracks and leaks pose as big a risk as foreign objects: They endager the sterility and efficacy of parenterals.
If leaks allow ambient air into a container, pathogens can also intrude. Moreover, the air can alter the active ingredient or even render it ineffective. A pierced needle shield on syringes also compromises the sterility of the product, in addition to posing a risk of injury to medical personnel.
With high voltage, you can avoid these risks: HVLD stands for our leak detection (High Voltage Leak Detection), HVNSI for the inspection for pierced needle shield (High Voltage Needle Shield Inspection).
Leaks caused by smalest cracks or pinholes are so fine that they cannot be detected even by the best cameras. For containers filled with liquid, we have developed our HVLD: The container is tilted by 90° and rotated to wet the inner wall completely with liquid. It is then moved past electrodes at a small distance. It becomes part of a high-voltage circuit and forms an electrical resistance with the electrodes. If liquid leaks out at any point, this measurably reduces the resistance. Is that the case, the product in question is discharged. With our HVNSI, you can also inspect syringes for pierced needle shields. A needle can bend and penetrate the cap when the latter is put on. A pierced shield also measurably reduces the resistance, causing the syringe to be rejected as defective.
Retrofittable
Retrofit the leak detection system for lyophilized products into existing inspection machines of our Seidenader Solutions.
Space-saving
On request, we will integrate the HSA inspection station into any of our machine platforms.
100% inspection
Inline and non-destructive — leak inspection for lyophilizates filled under a protective atmosphere and at negative pressure.
HSA: The tool of choice when you want to test your lyo products for leaks.
When the tried and tested high-voltage leak detection system cannot be used due to lack of electrical conductivity of the product, our laser-based Head Space Analysis (HSA) identifies leaks by analyzing the gas composition in the container.
Do you fill freeze-dried products under a protective atmosphere and at negative pressure? Then you know precisely the maximum amount of oxygen that is allowed inside your container. With our HSA, we measure the actual oxygen content present. If the value is above a level defined by you, ambient air has entered the container. The safety of the product is no longer given, the container is rejected.
