A state-of-the-art production facility in the heart of Europe: Körber Campus in Pécs offers expanded capacities and shorter delivery routes

With its state-of-the-art infrastructure, the Körber Campus in Pécs, Hungary, has become a key production facility for the Körber Business Area Pharma. The factory offers not only a wide range of available services backed by some thirty years of experience, but also space for continued customer growth due to its expanded capacities.

A worldwide pandemic, political conflicts, material shortages: the international developments of the past few weeks and months are posing enormous challenges for global supply chains. This has also had a major impact on pharmaceutical production systems, with a need to further accelerate production and packaging processes. Many companies are rethinking their supplier structures and turning increasingly to local partners. In terms of awarding contracts, it is not only the modularity and scalability of the systems that are decisive for future competitiveness, but also the sustainability and security of the supply chains.

“The demand for machines, especially in terms of handling and packaging solutions, remains high in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, and the needs of our customers are enormous,” says Dr. Jürgen Krebs, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer in the Körber Business Area Pharma. “Many suppliers are frequently facing problems in terms of satisfying a sudden surge in demand."

A fully developed production site in Pécs

The Körber Campus in Pécs is a mechanical engineering facility with modern equipment and superb infrastructure. The fully developed site now comprises three production units covering 53,000 square meters with workspace for 970 employees. Their services range from contract design to supply chain management, from machining to sheet metal processing through to assembly and shipping. This comprehensive bundling of expertise has allowed the Körber Business Area Pharma to concentrate all its assembly operations at Pécs.

Extra capacity for growing demand

It is not just the 27 years of production experience and the superior qualifications of the workforce that benefit the Körber customers. The Campus also offers them major advantages in terms of lean production, cutting-edge digitization and process transparency. This allows Körber to efficiently meet the growing needs of the pharmaceutical industry and provide the extra capacities demanded by ever-increasing orders. “It’s not just having a sustainable and secure supplier with shorter delivery routes that benefits our customers in Europe. We’re also able to pass on to them the advantages of a lean supply chain,” says Krebs.
