"BE ready for more packaging!" At Achema 2018 in Frankfurt/Main Mediseal is presenting for the first time the BE3 blister machine - put on the market in the last year - in line with the new P3 cartoner. Perfectly coordinated with the upstream flexible primary packaging system, the continuous secondary packaging machine offers a broad spectrum of possible applications. The equipment is able to package small folding boxes and individual packs at high speed (up to 300 cartons per minute) and at the same time very large multipacks (up to 150 x 110 x 200 mm). To ensure the fast and simple format change, which is essential for this, Mediseal has opted for optimal accessibility to all areas, tried-and-tested switchover using reproducible spindles and - optionally - electronic spindle position indicators.
As with the existing Blister Expert, with the P3 cartoner Mediseal is concentrating on optimizing productive time thanks to simple format changes and cleaning plus fast trouble-shooting and line clearance. This is why the module, which is unique in this market segment, pivots out fully and all functional elements are hinged. The leaflet unit can be pulled out forwards completely and aligned in any position on a rotary table for easy loading. Width adjustment on the product stack infeed and carton height adjustment are automatic.
The cartoner is perfectly matched to the Mediseal primary packaging in the upstream packaging process. The blisters from the primary packaging system are transferred directly to the secondary packaging. In this way, flat belts, on which the blisters lie free and unguided, as well as expensive stacking units can be avoided. Stacking is highly accurate, via a Delta robot, which is operated from the Mediseal machine control system incorporating the very latest control technology and requires no additional robotic control. The control software ensures consistently correct stacking even in the event of rejects from the upstream machine.
For reliable carton separation when the carton blanks are fed in, Mediseal relies on the patented solution, which has already been applied to the P3200 cartoner. If required, carton loading can also be handled automatically.
The Blister Expert's modern and new design and operation concept has been applied to the P3 cartoner. A white frame structure encloses the work area, while a circulating blue line traces the flow of product through the machine and in the event of faults provides orientation for the operator in the form of an illuminated display element. The equipment is operated via Medipak Systems Group's own HMI based on self-explanatory symbols and jobs as a sequence of actions through which the operator is guided. The group-wide HMI is used on packaging machines from Dividella and Mediseal, as well as on Seidenader inspection machines, and once machine operators become familiar with it they can learn quickly and operate different machines more easily.
